What is a game?

Hi Stillcon People. I'm a Philosophy prof at UCO in Edmond, where I teach a regular upper-year course called
The Philosophy of Games
. I also sponsor the UCO Chess & Games Club, which is a very active new student org here.
We have been planning to conduct a small pilgrimage to StillCon and maybe run a few games (we're still deciding exactly what might be fun). But if folks didn't think it was too "deep," and if a few other participants could be scared up, I could certainly run a panel on the question "What is a Game?" Let me know if there's any interest...

Thanks for planning on coming to Stillcon. I would suggest you pre-register before the convention to save a bit on the price of a ticket.
I would be very interested in having a panel on the Philosophy of Games. I cannot speak for the convention organizer, but I would love to have you at the convention.

That sounds like a great panel perhaps and certainly brings up the question of "How do you define, Gamer?" Which is always a hot debate with the invention of video games versus traditional board games and tabletop games.
If you are interested in running any demos or tournaments of traditional games let us know as well.

I think that sounds like a great idea all around.
We've love to have your groups do some gaming open table work at the con and we have several spaces for such things. Feel free to send me a Private Message via this forum or to my email at wohtrent@yahoo.com with your table and chair needs and what ever your group would like to host. We would love to have you.
I think that sounds like a great panel idea, Stillwater is a college town so I think our students would bite on that topic. please let me know of your time arrangements for the weekend and when you would like to fit such a panel into your schedule.
I can't wait to see you guys at the con!

Haven't found anybody else to sit on this panel with me.
I'd still be happy to run some sort of informal discussion on the topic, though. It'd have to be Saturday AM - it turns out I have a bunch of other much less fun-to-fulfill commitments later in the week and will have to leave the convention by noon that day. Let me know if you still think this is worth doing, anyhow...

We'd be happy to accommodate a panel Saturday morning or you could just game, whatever you like Mark, Since you have to leave early we'd like you to do whatever makes your time with us fun.

OK, I might give a pass on this this year, then, if that's OK, and just spend the time I have at the Con meeting people and goofing around. If you guys run this again next year I'll try to arrange things so I can come for the whole time, and recruit some other panelists. Sorry to be a wet blanket.
